This first part of the Zanjan Diptych is centered around the medallion of an 80-year-old antique Zanjan carpet. This medallion served as the inspiration for the rug’s overall form, given new life by the addition of fresh borders that match the dark blue (sormei) background. The subtle cubic form embedded within the medallion’s structure also influenced the design of the added sections. The added sections are crafted from hand-spun wool and feature natural dyes, ensuring authenticity and quality.The final form of this carpet notably departs from traditional rug layouts, showcasing the modern thinking behind its design. This piece is a fusion of the geometric principles inherent in Zanjan carpets and innovative contemporary rug design.
